Weapons Tier List

Your personal firearms are the heartbeat of Swarm Bunker Lust Defense. While turrets cover lanes automatically, the MG, rocket launcher, and shotgun you carry decide whether leaks turn into game-over screens. This page ranks every primary weapon by sustained DPS, burst windows, ammo economy, and how cleanly they trigger bond combat abilities from Celine, Lina, and Nora.

Rankings assume mid-campaign upgrades on the full Steam release. New players should read How to Play before selling off “low tier” guns—some C-tier weapons exist only to fund your first MG upgrade.

Tier criteria

TierMeaning
SCarries runs with minimal support; worth prioritizing on the upgrade checklist
AStrong default pick for most chapters
BSituational but excellent in one role
CTransitional; replace when scrap allows
D/FAvoid except for challenge runs or collection

S-tier weapons

Heavy machine gun (HMG) — The backbone of bunker defense. High sustained fire shreds basic swarms and keeps pressure off turret lanes. Pairs with Celine’s rate-of-fire bond skill once you progress her route on the Bond system page. Weak against clustered armored units unless you add AoE support.

Rocket launcher (RL) — Best burst AoE in the personal arsenal. Clears elite packs that slip past MG fire and synergizes with Lina’s impact bonuses after mid-route unlocks. Ammo cost is steep; bring RL for boss-adjacent waves, not every skirmish.

A-tier weapons

Combat shotgun — Dominates close chokepoints when swarms funnel through a single breach. Nora’s spread-enhancing bond can bump this into S-tier on indoor-heavy chapters listed in the Walkthrough. Falls off when enemies spawn from wide angles.

Modified MG (mid-tier upgrade) — Cheaper than HMG but still A-tier until Act III. Use it if scrap is tight; see Best Build for when to skip straight to HMG.

Sidearm (late upgrade path) — Not a primary DPS source, but A-tier as a cleanup tool when reloads would leak a wave. Essential on Steam Deck if you map quick-switch.

B-tier weapons

Starter pistol — Fine for tutorial waves only. Sell or stash once the shop offers any MG variant.

Grenade launcher (if unlocked before RL) — Good AoE but outclassed once rockets get tier-two mods. Keep one B-tier slot until RL blueprints drop.

LMG variant (spread build) — B-tier without bond support; rises to A with Celine if you commit to her combat tree.

C-tier and below

Rust-tier MG — First shop MG. C-tier: necessary evil for one chapter.

Flare gun / utility sidearms — D-tier for damage; situational F-tier unless a quest mandates them.

Bond synergies that change tiers

Bond combat abilities—not adult scenes alone—move weapons up or down. Examples:

  • Celine — Fire-rate and overheating control; elevates MGs one tier when her combat node is unlocked via Unlock scenes.
  • Lina — Explosion radius and reload speed; mandatory for rocket S-tier consistency.
  • Nora — Pellet count and close-range crit; shotguns jump tiers on funnel stages.

Plan routes on the Characters hub before hard-selling weapons that look weak in isolation.

Upgrade order suggestion

  1. First reliable MG (any tier above starter pistol)
  2. One AoE tool (RL preferred)
  3. Shotgun OR second MG depending on chapter layout in stage tracker
  4. HMG and RL tier-two mods
  5. Sidearm cleanup only after turret coverage is solved in Turrets guide

Patch awareness

001Studio-NSFW can adjust scrap costs and base damage between updates. When notes mention “firearms” or “bond skills,” re-check this page and Updates. Community consensus from Wiki review threads helps confirm whether a change is cosmetic or meta-shifting.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Should I run double MG or MG plus rocket?

MG plus rocket covers more wave types. Double MG only works if turrets handle all AoE—rare before late Act III.

Is the shotgun worth upgrading early?

Yes on funnel-heavy chapters; skip if your current stage spawns from three or more angles. Track failures on the [stage tracker](/tools/stage-tracker/).

Do weapons affect bond scene unlocks?

Scenes unlock through story and bond progress, not gun choice. Combat bond skills, however, scale with weapon type—see [Bond system](/characters/bond-system/).

Where do artillery and turrets fit?

They are not personal firearms. Compare emplacements on the [Turrets tier list](/tier-list/turrets/) and pair them with the S-tier picks here.
